Fast Fridays always present a great mix of drag racing and speedway action, and last nights event was no exception. In addition to all the action on the drag strip, last night's speedway action included part of the WA Super Sedan state titles, which conclude tonight at the Perth Motorplex.
Check out the photos here, and if you need another motorsport fix this weekend, head down to the Motorplex tonight and catch some more speedway action.

2007 November 21st Whoop Ass Wednesday
Posted by FIL on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 (14:13:23) (285 reads)

Tonights Whoop Ass Wednesday was a relatively quiet night on the Drag Strip, which gave me the opportunity to change to a smaller lens for part of the night. you'll notice that the photos from the first half of the night feature a lot of wide angle, side on and low angle shots, these are shots I wouldn't normally get at drag meets as the lenses I normally use have to much zoom to be effective in that situation. However, I do think there are some really cool shots to be had, so one of the next lenses I plan on buying will be something in the range of roughly 17 - 85mm.

2007 November 12th Formula Tech Mystery Monday
Posted by FIL on Monday, November 12, 2007 (15:36:16) (259 reads)

Racer turnout at tonight's Mystery Monday, sponsored by Formula Tech in Bibra Lake, was probably affected by the hot weather, with less than a hundred cars and bikes going down the track tonight. As a result, no one was able to complain about a lack of runs, with some people making over 30 trips down the track.
A private test day during the day and the warm weather helped the track temperature stay above 40 degree's C for a large part of the night, ensuring optimum traction.
You can check out the photos from tonights racing here.

2007 November 7th Whoop Ass Wednesday
Posted by FIL on Wednesday, November 07, 2007 (15:57:32) (262 reads)

This weeks Whoop Ass Wednesday had 2 of the key ingredients to a huge turnout, a track fresh from a National Open, promising plenty of traction, and some awesome weather all day and night. However, for some reason, racer turnout was down on previous meetings this season. For whatever the reason, this of course had an upside, with the racers who did turn up getting in heaps of runs during the night, and many going home with personal best times.
You can check out all the photos here. (Sorry, no speedway photos this week)

2007 Motorplex Season Opener
Posted by FIL on Sunday, November 04, 2007 (10:53:13) (226 reads)

The second event I covered this weekend was the opening night of the Perth Motorplex's National Open drag racing season. A massive 217 cars entered for this event, including 19 SuperCharged Outlaws and 9 Top Comp cars. Lindsay Catalano returned to racing after spending a large portion of last season rebuilding the car to work with the new rules, which now allow SuperCharged Outlaw sedans to run 6.50 seconds. Lindsay's opening pass was a 6.765, and by the end of the night the team had run a 6.531 second pass. Rob and Jackie Pilkington's Monte Carlo bodied Funny Car was ready for action, after the team licensed the car late last season, and Rob got the car down the quarter mile in 6.003 seconds on his last pass of the night, winning the Top Comp B Final in the process. Junior Dragster was an all girl final, with Amy Kennedy taking the win over Nicole Adamos.

What a weekend, 3 days, 3 events to cover, and I'm only just starting to get a chance to sort and upload some photos. The first event this weekend was the opening AutoTrader Fast Friday at the Perth Motorplex on Friday night. A huge field of cars and bikes turned up for a chance to get some laps under their belt and to compete in the elimination rounds. For some it was also a chance to get some last minute testing done before the opening round of the Motorplex's National Open season the next day.
All the photos from the Fast Friday can be found here.
